Tap, Tap, Plop!

A two-minute golf song for two to five year olds. The grown-up sings the words. The little one does the sounds: baa, uh-oh, clap, and a big PLOP.

What it teaches

Where golf came from. Shepherds by the sea in Scotland, a stick and a stone, and rabbits who dug the first holes. It is the story people tell, the same one as The Very Old Game.
How to start. Hold the club, feet apart, stand tall, eyes on the ball.
How to be. Landing in the sand is normal. Try again, wait your turn, and clap for each other.

Why it is built this way

The chorus is a game of peekaboo. "Roll, roll, roll…" builds, the music stops for one beat, then PLOP. Little ones laugh most at a build-up followed by a surprise.
Tunes climb on the happy parts: "up, up, up" goes up, and the last chorus moves one step higher.
There is one face to follow the whole way through: the ball.
Every verse leaves a gap for a sound a toddler can make: baa, squeeze, hello, uh-oh, clap.

Singing it together

Say PLOP together, as loud as you like. Clap on the claps. Do the swing in the chorus with an empty hand, or with a rolled-up sock.

More from the club

When the song is over, take it off the screen: a rolled-up sock for a ball, a cup on its side for a hole. Tap, tap… PLOP.
